Enoree River Vineyards & Winery
This South Carolina winery and vineyard is family-owned and operated. They have an eight-acre vineyard that grows muscadines and Black Spanish grapes. All of the wine is made on site using real juice. There are no chemical enhancements and no wine kits.
This winery is located in Newberry County and is a great place to sample local wines. Visitors can relax and enjoy the view of the vineyards while tasting Muscadine, fruit and Vinifera wines. Tastings are available during business hours.
Richard and Laura LaBarre met while traveling for Vietnam Veterans of America. While visiting wineries, they became inspired to open their own winery. They opened their doors in 2004. The idea of owning a winery is not new, but starting a winery from scratch is. Richard and Laura LaBarre’s dream turned into reality with the opening of Enoree River Vineyards & Winery in Newberry, South Carolina.
The eight-acre vineyard features Black Spanish and muscadines. All of the wines are made onsite, and the juice is 100% pure. The ERW vineyard is one of a few producers of Herbemont wine, a type of wine that originated in Texas and has a rich, musky taste. In addition to sweet wines, the winery also produces fortified reds.
Hannah Rosenwald School
The Hannah Rosenwald School in Newberry, South Caroline is one of 26 Rosenwald schools built in the rural South during the early 20th century. It is located on four acres of land, and is one of the few that are still standing. Its design was based on the Julius Rosenwald Fund Community School Plans of 1924. The school consists of two regular classrooms, one industrial classroom, and three cloakrooms. Its wood-framed windows and wooden siding are typical of the Rosenwald style.
The Hannah Rosenwald School in Newberry, South Caroline is a National Register of Historic Places-listed property. It is located at 61 Deadfall Road in Newberry. The building is now a community center for the surrounding area. It is open to the public on weekends.
In the early 20th century, the Hannah Rosenwald School served African-American children in the area.
