Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site
The Bent’s Old Fort is a fort built in 1833 in southeastern Colorado. The original owners were Charles Bent, William Bent, and Ceran St. Vrain. They traded with the Arapaho and Southern Cheyenne Plains Indians in exchange for buffalo robes.
The US Park Service began excavating the old fort in the 1960’s. Much of the original structure was destroyed, but the park service reconstructed it from scratch.
