Exploration Green

Exploration Green is a beautiful park located in Clear Lake Texas. The community has been working to create it for many years. It is a collaborative effort between the community, public officials and environmental groups. Five public meetings were held and the public provided valuable input. The community’s input led to a final master plan that includes the addition of new green space, such as Exploration Green. The plan was recently honored with the Houston-Galveston Area Council’s Public Space Planning Award.

The nonprofit organization behind the green space is the Exploration Green Conservancy. They are working to save the landscape and help protect the community from the effects of natural disasters. The project was nearly complete when Hurricane Harvey struck the area, and it saved nearly 200 homes. Because of the recent disaster, the CLCWA has been working on fast-tracking the project. They are completing one detention pond every year, and by 2022, they hope to protect more than 2,000 homes from flooding.

The park’s 178-acre former golf course will soon be transformed into a multi-use green space. The project will include wetlands, detention ponds, a native plant nursery and miles of trails. It is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2018.
